The Cosmopolitan Dress

Introducing this month’s Patreon project, the Cosmopolitan dress: a versatile dress with late-30s-meets-70s styling.

The Cosmopolitan Dress takes its main inspiration from the late 30s - early 40s, with a touch of 70s influence, depending on your styling choices.

I've named this the Cosmopolitan dress because it's going to be the basis for a series of mix-and-match pattern expansions to be released in future, which will add up to a dizzying array of styling options suitable for any occasion! The base pattern comes with two skirt length options and two sleeve styles, and I already have a further two sleeves and an additional skirt planned.

Shirring at the shoulder releases into soft gathers over the bust, while the waist is nipped in with a shaped midriff section in front. The midriff front is curved (with a more defined curve in larger bust sizes) for a natural, more comfortable underbust fit.

The full, gathered skirt can be made maxi length, or in a classic 40s midi length, with optional centre front split.

The two included sleeve options provide two quite different looks: Dial up the 70s-does-30s vibe with the flutter sleeve for a romantic look, or keep it straight talking 40s with the plain short sleeve. The bodice is also semi-compatible with the puff sleeves from the Brunch dress (note that the notches may not align).

The Cosmopolitan dress is available in vintage sizes 14-24, in four cup size variations. Get the pattern and instructions on my Patreon page (available to Embroidery Enthusiast until the end of August, and thereafter Appliqué Aficionado tier and above).
