Vogue's Spring Colour Schemes 1955

February 21, 2018

As a fan of colour generally, I absolutely love coming across vintage resources recommending inventive colour combinations. The April 1955 issue of British Vogue came with a (handbag-sized!) insert leaflet of key colour schemes for spring. I particularly love the schemes with unexpected colour pops: chartreuse shoes with a pink dress; periwinkle blue with a fern green and mustard ensemble; peacock with banana-beige.

I wonder whether these pull-out guides were a regular feature in Vogue magazines at the time - I've looked about but I've not been able to find anything similar in other editions, so I'm going to do some further research.

Which is your favourite combination?

Happy heart day! 💕 I know that Valentine’s Day is difficult for some, and considered over-commercialised nonsense by others, but I’m on board with any celebration of love in all its forms.

I’m feeling so full of love this week in general: love for my husband; love for my community of amazing vintage gals; love for life and the adventures I’ve had and those still to come (heart shaped rocks collected on my travels with @newts_shoots 💕)

The secret to keeping warm in the recent cold weather - a silk longline thermal vest. This one came to me in its original package with the sweetest artwork (the kitty!) According to the label, “nothing but the finest of real silk could give you such supreme comfort in wear... keeps you cool in summer, warm in winter... and smoothly, sumptuously elegant at all times”. I must admit it’s remarkably effective as insulation.
