This week I'm mainly obsessing (and I mean obsessing) over novelty prints, playsuits and mix-and-match holiday wardrobes. I absolutely love the idea of packaged "wardrobes" of interchangeable, co-ordinated pieces, and it seems they were quite the thing in the early 50s.
Inspired by the wide range of 1940s propaganda prints, I’m very pleased to announce my Home Front fabric design collection. The designs in this collection draw on a variety of historical sources, from Jacqmar scarves to propaganda booklet illustrations.
Many years ago I visited an exhibition on propaganda at the British Library, and became fascinated by the concept of propaganda and patriotism in fashion - in particular Jacqmar’s playful scarves and prints depicting elements of war-time life such as air raids and rationing.
There have been many fashion histories about the trends in attractive body shape. This one examines on the changing shape of a lady's frontage in the changing fashion silhouette, which is a subject close to my heart (as it were!)
